Course expiration explanation

The last two digits of the Course ID code reflect the year a course or module was created, updated or reviewed and recertified. For example, Nutritional Health for Men, Course ID “NHM08” was revised in 2008. Generally, the final date a course can be completed for credit will be in the 4th year after the year of revision. (In this case, 2012). This is called the "Complete By" date in the course description.

A new edition of a course is considered a new course and may be taken for ce credit, even within the same recertifcation period. For example if you've taken Nutritional Health for Men, NHM05 you may also complete Nutritional Health for Men 2nd ed., NHM08 for ce credit.

The last day a course can be completed for credit is the last day of the month and year shown as the "Complete By" date. For example, Nutritional Health for Men has a "Complete By" date of January 2012, which means that we will award credit for completed paper examinations postmarked for return by January 31, 2012, and for exams completed on-line until 11:59 pm PT on January 31, 2012.

The Complete By date for a full-length course can be found in the following places:

  • on the title page of coursebooks and electronic versions
  • on the website course description page (for current editions only)
  • in our paper catalogs

EDnow OnLine Learning modules and magazine exams use a different expiration method. Please see those sections for explanation.
