Course description:
Breast milk is nature's preferred food for infants, but sometimes nature needs a little help, especially in feeding preterm infants. With infants as young as 24 weeks' gestation now surviving, finding ways to enhance human milk through the fortification of expressed maternal breast milk or donor milk is even more important. Specific conditions warrant modifying breast milk so it can be safely administered. This article will discuss these issues.
